What did you guys think about the bass boat races going right through about 20-30 of us trolling off of split Rock Saturday morning? I think it was rediculous. The good news was I didn't see any objects floating in the water, lake conditions were better than I expected, and launching at red gate was easier in my opinion with the higher water. Here's a good one though...we arrived at the launch Friday night about 7:30-8:00 and there was a white truck and trailer launching so I waited a few minutes. Then I thought there's nobody even in the truck or a boat even around!!!! A guy that was fishing there came up and said he had been there for a half hour and the truck was parked with trailer in water the whole time!!!! In the middle of the ramp!!!! How lazy can you get ? I couldn't believe it, about another half hour went by and we were parked up in the parking lot(where I feel you should park) and we saw the white truck pulling a bass boat drive away. Ok I'm not saying there should be open season on bass fisherman .... Well not all of them anyway. Lol

I have pics of a few bass boats going thru the fleet off split rock sat morning, I also have video.. There was at least 8 boats that buzzed thru at better than 50 mph within 40feet or less of trolling boats, not one but a fleet of 12 of us between split and the unicorn at the time.... I was seriously scared for the fleet.... It was rediculous! One boat that went by said ALLSTATE all over it.... Kinda ironic an insurance sponsored boat is creating very unsafe conditions... If you need to go fast, get outside the fleet please! I used to have no negative opinion of bass fishermen.... Now I am developing one fast!!! What does everyone else think?

Remember it is the 1% that give 99% of the problems, you guys floor me. I used to troll for salmon and lake trout all the time. So I can speak from both sides of the issue. Do all trollers cut each other off? No they don't. Do all trollers put their planer boards a "mile" out when trolling in a crowd? No they don't Do all bass fisherman drive like insane idiots? No we don't I agree 100% that the actions of those few were wrong very wrong, but please don't lump us all together. We really need to stop bickering among groups of anglers. Regardless of what type of fish we enjoy going after, and what way we like to fish for them, we all care about the resource. It does not matter if you want to fish in tournaments or just go catch some fish to eat for dinner, we are all anglers and we really need to try and get along to insure the continuation of our sport. There are plenty of other people out there who would love to limit or eliminate our opportunities to do just what we all love to do.

More than likely they were from the Walmart tournie out of Platsburgh. If you have video then PLEASE, for the sake of all of us, contact the tournie organizer. With evidence they will be disqualified. I had some issues with them when they had a tournie out of South Bay several years back. I went to South Bay, and once I got past the crowd of pissed off people and NY game wardens that looked like a lynch mob, I was able to talk to the guys working at the tournie. They and the wardens all told me that pictures would be a big help, if they can identify a boat then they will be disqualified. Your video should be all the evidence they need.

Well said Brock ! We all need to pay more attention out there. There are inconsiderate boat drivers on both sides of the discussion. Perhaps some of the Bass clubs can get the word out that they need to be more considerate when operating at high speeds near other vessels. On the other hand I've been cut off a number of times by other trollers who sometimes get too close to other anglers. We all can do better out there. Stay safe ! BB

...I used to have no negative opinion of bass fishermen.... What does everyone else think? I think when you have a 'channel' that has to be measured in parts of a mile that ANY boat could take a wider path around ANY other boat. Bass boats included. Last week I had this happen: 36'-class sailboat with unfurled but luff sail and little wind doing 10-12Kts under power still think they can go wherever, even if you are trolling heading W-SW and (as colregs suggest) you make your direction "obvious" over a 1/4 mile away and they progressively ease W and pass within 150 feet only to "correct" to a N by NE heading after passing. The wake-trail made their navigation quite noticeable after the incident. I had to throttle up to 4.5mph avoid intersecting their path and felt a little bad at first for getting in their way, but after their N-NE correction I was angry with them since it became obvious I was not in their navigational path. Back to Bass Boats: the reason for the ongoing conflict between bass tourney guys and other fishermen is people "exercising their rights" without consideration of other people. Even *if* bass boats make less of a wake on plane than by running slower, the margin of error at 50MPH on the water doesn't leave room for only a 40' berth to another boat. The feeling of power and control is an unfaithful mistress...

A-holes can be found in all kinds of boats, especially on a busy weekend like the LCI. When trying to land had a big white Trophy that was buzzing back and forth in front of the marina rocking all boats, fishing and pleasure. He wasn't fishing so no idea what he was up to. Had rods sticking out all over but don't think he was trolling at 30 mph.... But I guess if you get walleye at 30, it will take the fight right out of them.... But as Brock mentioned, fighting among ourselves isn't going to help. Pictures are worth a thousand words and let's focus on the squirrels who are the problem no matter what they fish for. Report them and see what happens. BTW - Many bass boats now sport "wraps" for sponsorship. There can be 2 to 4 boats on the water at the same time with the same wrap. So pictures can help. They could be on different brands of boat/motor that can help ID who's boat there is a issue with. That said, things have been better the past few years so making ourselves heard does help. Let's try not to be nit-picky but if there is a serious infraction by all means report it. The Everstart tournament is out of Plattsburg starting Thursday I think which is a pretty big tournament. There will be lots of boats on the water in wraps. I'm sure 99.5% of them will be on their best behavior and the one that isn't will be fishing in front of Gary's dock....

90 Boats launched out of the Plattsburgh Launch Saturday AM, and were back at the boat basin by 3 to weigh in their less then stellar fish. After dealing with 90 bass boats on the dock to try and keep slips open for the salmon and Laker trollers that were trying to make their way in, I lost all patience with FLW and bass tournaments. I saw many small fish (they have a 12 inch min. length) that were belly up in bags, coming into the weigh stations. I also heard 2 different reports of bass guys cutting the heads off big Northern Pike that were angled. I understand to each their own, when it comes to fishing, but the lack of respect for both the resource and the people that love and protect it is something that is definitely prevalent with bass tournament anglers.
That’s just my two cents.

I'm sure 99.5% of them will be on their best behavior and the one that isn't will be fishing in front of Gary's dock.... HAHHH...to funny. I'm still waiting for the report on your's and Franks golf outing. But anyway, you are right when you say things have improved over the last couple of years, they definately have. And I'll bet part of that can be attributed to the local clubs getting the word out amongst themselves. I also think that another reason things have improved on the south end is that the FLW's and Walmarts and whatever other big tournies are now out of Platsburgh, which leads to what started this thread. I cant imagine that the tournie organizers want the bad publicity or complaints any more than we do, and to just constantly say it's only 1% of them and cant we all just get along does nothing to solve the problem. Anyone who spends any time on this forum knows that when a troller gets called out for doing something foolish they get lambasted pretty good, jusk ask Pierre as the most recent example. I still think a pic to the tournie sponsor is the ticket. They dont want the cowboys any more than we do, and maybe a disqualification would teach the "1 %" that this aint no open range. A quick observation- Reelax reported at least 8 boats. If all the 90 boats Comitted said were launching were in the tournie then thats closer to 9%. If it was less than 90 then the percentage gets higher...not quite the 1%.

Well, all very good comments... I do agree the issue with with 1% of the boaters.. I also don't think any of the guys buzzing thru the fleet frequent this forum... But incidents like this give bass fisherman as a whole a bad name and that is a shame... Here is the video I mentioned... Although the quality and length is not what I had hoped (had not seen it when I posted earlier) It does show one boat going inside Crazy Ivan at about 40ft at 50+ and there were atleast 10 more boat outside CI and I at the time... Look closely cause I think that boat goes between little pup and crazy ivan.... All they needed to do was go outside the fleet by 200 yards to be safe... Other boats that buzzed us went on the other side of CI... but inside the other boats in the fleet. I do agree these guys were out of Platzburg headed south, from the sounds, Walmart tourney guys.... Next time I will have hi rez pics and very clear video!

I don't know what I shot. Had a good time paid out my quarters and collected..... Um none. Home field advantage or LOFT (Lack of F--king Talent) on my part? Who knows. I had a great time is all I can say and Frank picks a perfect day for golf. Cold fronts with blue bird skies going through suck for fishing but are great for golf! See, alllllways have a back up plan ;D ;D ;D

I'm on vacation this week so I refuse to wear brown. By the way the rock bass are thick as thieves around your boat dock, at least last night. Borrowed a friends boat this week to get the boys and myself out some. My 8 year old managed to cast up on your dock, don't worry we got it off. I hope I made a good impression on him, I told him how important it was to make sure we got his bait back because it was someones property. I asked him how would he like it if he found a senko and a hook on our front steps.

And remember the picnic area up above is always available for your scouts if you ever want to camp out there. Fun way for all of them to earn their fishing merit badge, catch a mess of panfish off the dock and have a fish fry by campfire...there's a canoe sitting there to.
