Going to look at a 1991 Lund 21ft Sport Fisherman tomorrow... It has inboard , but I can't pass it up. It is SO close to what I have been looking for over the past year I am itchin to pull the trigger.... It's a soft top cuddy with 4 riggers and all the goodies with a fishhawk already installed.. It is a fishinmachine that will retire "Reelax" in style if she is as good as it sounds and looks in pics... [glow=red,2,300]Does anyone have any input on what to look for for problems? [/glow] Heard floors and soggy flotation foam is #1 issue with this platform. I am told the floor is new and the foam is dry on this one. I should be able to tell by how she sits in the water right? I am doing a sea trial tomorrow around 4pm, so any quick replies are welcome! Thanks...

I have a 1996 2150 Baron GS I bought new. Its a great boat that will take any water you care to fish in. My floor is rotted in the back where the canvas doesn't cover. I am going to replace it this year. If the motor is fine, buy it!

1.check the bottom of the boat for hooks or dents caused by trialering,,2.check to see if it shifts easy when the motor is trimmed up,as it would be when you are unloading and loading on a trailer 3.check for oil leaks in the bilge,4.check motor mounts to be sure they are not worn, 5.check for leaks in the power trim system(they can be a b to fix).6..check cooling system for leaks or bad hoses,7.check lower unit for water in the gear oil.I don't wanna P on your parade but I would never own another inboard even if someone gave it to me. now remember, this is just my opinion....PS...boat looks crooked on the trailer

Reelax
She looks good in the pictures. Nice lines.
I don't know much about hull or engine integrity but if she floats and runs well at top rpms and bottom rpms , I would not buy it before i brought it to a first rate shop for a full engine review and hull test. Trailer too needs full inspection. If the trailer is not galvanized, its an issue. if the boat was often moored, then water issues may be more of a concern.
Once I broke my painted steel trailer rail beam in half which was cause by rust. This was about when the trailer was 15 years old.
I don't know what the layers are between the outside hull and inside but if there is plywood anywhere, for example in the stern or stringers....that killed my 86 sea nymph when I discovered the whole plywood interior of the stern was rotted despite being stored in a barn the whole time I owned it.
One other time i bought a second hand 16 foot walk thru on a super deal that was only six years old and the first time out after i paid cash, burned out the engine because the Yamaha oil injection did not function.
Once a neighbor of mine bought a seemingly good condition boat and on the trial run, the boat was twenty years old, the engine worked its way off the stern and would have gone to Davey Jones locker except I held it while he brought the boat to shore.
All I'm saying is the boat looks good enough to eat but the twenty years she has on her takes its toll and professional inspection would be a good investment no matter what the price is for the boat. I almost think unless you are a cracker jack mechanic a boat of this many years is a lot of risk and expensive upkeep.
it will take about eight cylinders to haul that baby any distance.

reelax thats a nice looking boat but like Mike p said if you are going to buy it get it surveyed for the cost it is worth it unless the price is so cheap you cant go wrong. Now that I have said that I have a 1986 Crest liner Sabra I had to replace the floor 2 years ago,on my boat the stern is plywood inside make sure its not rotten make sure theres no water in the oil, engine or lower unit when you drive it make sure theres no vibration when inboards get old the coupler between the motor and out drive go. all I can say is have someone that knows boats look at it.

If you happen to belong to BoatUS, they have a team of survivors on hand to check out boats at a reasonable price. May be worth the investment. Lund makes a great boat. Could be a great deal or a freaking nightmare. I'd have have a pro check it out only because of the age... Good luck.

I think you should start with nada value of the boat and figure out what it will need $$ wise for repairs for a number of years to see what you can pay for it and have that dream boat without a lot of issues.
The trailer looks like origonal painted and has some rust spots & you can see the spare that appears to have a number of road trips under it's belt. If you are only towing local you might get a number of years out of it.
The fuel tank and fuel lines should be inspected and if the tank was ever changed ask for receipts. If it hasn't been changed I would plan on a new one. Speaking of the fuel tank, if you can inspect, check and see if it was foamed in. If it was plan on changing it.
It is a buyers market right now so hope you can get yourself a great deal. Jut remeber there are 1000 just like within a 6 hour drive for sale so make sure you pick the one that gives you that smile every time you drop the throttle ;D

I have a freind with the Baron, very similar, he fishes Lake O with it all the time. I have fished with him several times and it is a very nice, stable fishing platform. Although I prefer outboards, I would be hard pressed to turn one down in good working order. Punky floor, and rotted transom are things to watch for. Take a compression test on the motor. Most other things can be fixed fairly inexpensively compared to the cost of these.

They are nice size boat, but IO are not my 1st choice specially that we fish almost all year. Ask the seller when the last time he change the bellows and the gimbal bearing.
Raz post a ad last summer on a similar boat but with a outboard
Good luck with you're purchase.

Beautiful looking boat and Lunds have a good reputation, BUT, like others I would never own a I/O again. Last one I had had a cracked block that was repaired and then failed 6 months after I bought it. Guy I bought it from said he had no idea. Must have been that way when he bought it. Not a good choice if you fish "Frostbite", Don't rush, have it checked out.

I've spent a ton of hours on that model although I think it was a bit older. Great trolling platform. We spent entire LCI's on the water with a three man crew.
Always had motor issues though. Even when it was running it's best it seemed underpowered. Was in the shop twice for extensive motor work and never seemed to have the balls it should have to get up on plane. Don't know if they had different power plant options and don't remember the specifics of exactly what my buddies boat had for a motor.
I do know that he will never own another I/O.
I'd be careful on this and follow the advice to have it thoroughly checked out.
Good luck.
