The weather looks great for later in the week. I'm headed over to Pulaski with the boat to fish for browns on Thurs, Fri and Sat. Temps are supposed to be in the 60s with lows in the 40s overnight.

Damn the poor luck! or stupidity or both!! The boat was ready to roll and I decided yesterday to throw it into the water and give it a test run. A local river ramp just opened up near the house so I ran over and backed it in for a test run on the trailer. The 60 started like a champ and purred like it always does until I put it in Forward and started to load it.. There was a nasty grinding sound that just wasn't right and didn't go away........ When I put it in reverse, it ran and loaded perfect... Something is up! I run the kicker and all is wonderful in the world with that and my remote throttle control is still functioning perfectly. I get back to the house and go to pull the prop.. I notice that I've got about 3/4 of and inch of slop in the shaft and the prop will slide in and out.. Something is missing??? I pull the prop and discover that some dumbo (me) left out the bushing behind the prop? I started thinking about the last time I was out and I squared the prop on a piece of ledge and when I got home, I replaced the damaged prop with my spare. Somehow, I must have misplaced the bushing and it didn't make it back on the shaft. The story gets worse because I put a dial indicator on my propeller shaft and the hit had put a bend in it.... Needless to say, my Yamaha dealer was happy to see me coming and for once, everything was in stock! I drove up this morning and got the parts and came home and rebuilt it. All new seals and oil rings and fresh lower gearcase oil. Now it's fixed and fresh and ready to roll. It's just that I spent all my fishing trip money on repair parts!!! So the trip will have to wait til next month..

I hate it when that happens!!!! On the bright side you could have driven all the way over before you found out and now you have a month to look forward to an awesome trip...... That's the truth! Besides that, I've got a friend that lives over on Sebago Lake and we're going to go out on Sunday over there.. Sunny and Temps in the hi 60s!! I'll take it! It looks like I'd of gotten rained on over by Oswego on Thursday and Friday anyway.. I gave the boat a test run yesterday and all systems are GO!

Sebago was fun and the weather was outstanding! No fish but a couple releases. I'd never fished it before and the guy who went along with me asked if his buddy could come. As it turned out, they wanted to jig for togue at the south end of the lake. That was a wasted effort! Finally got them to go trolling but it was too little and too late. The buddy told me right off he hated trolling... As it turns out, I found out later that I should have been at the opposite end of the lake where the smelt stage for their spawning run. That's where the salmon are this time of year. The rest of the lake is full of lakers and alewives!! The amount of bait I was marking was unbelievable. The togue were all over them but all this was happening below 100 feet. The two releases we had were at 88 feet.
