I have about convinced myself to make Lake O the new home for my boat, and plan a road trip next weekend to check out marinas. I'm leaning towards the Henderson/Sackets Harbor area because the marinas are so reasonably priced, but I'm concerned that if I am in that area I'm always looking at a long ride south to find trout and salmon. Any advice from the regulars on what the fishing is like in that area would be most appreciated. My interest is in trout and salmon, with walleye bringing up the rear.

Gary, how big is your boat. Length ? It's a 24 footer...a Lund. Long runs cost a small fortune, and I would rather be fishing than running to get to them, so thats why I was wondering what Henderson area was like. If the trout and salmon arent there then I dont want to keep the boat there. Got a mixed response on the Lake O United site, most said they arent there, but one said they were.

Gary we keep our boat at Dowie Dale campground They have a small campground and marina on the lake. If you are intersred in a camping scenario they are very reasonable and great people. There is also Salmon Country Marina and campground. They are on the little salmon and are also very nice people and have a full time mechanic. We store our boat with them. If you would like more info I can give you names and #'s. Making those long runs in rough water is no fun.

Gary, Salmon Country is a nice marina. Slips range from $500 to around a $1000 for the season. I used to trailer, but the last few yrs it stays there. At the end of the season they pull the boat, acid wash the hull, winterize and inside storage at a very reasonable price. In the spring just call about a week before you plan to go out and they will have the boat in your slip, ready to go. Give Bob or Carolyn (owners) a call. 315-963-8049
