Yeah it was a really nice day overall. The weather and the bite were great for the first 45 minutes. We caught fish throughout the day but only harvested a dozen White Crappies, two nice Yellow Perch and a Gill. Great for dinner last night. All fish came off standing timber in 13FOW on 1/8thoz Bucktails in red/white & chartreuse tipped with Fathead minnows. All of the good brush piles that were on my usual playground have been pulled either by the Coastguard or F&W. The other thing that hurts is that they have recently harvested the water chestnuts as well as the water being high and very dirty. Time to build some cribs I guess. But I have to do some research as to the legalities here in VT & NY. If anyone has any information on the building of artificial structure and a list of legal materials please share the info. I have been told it is illegal now. The days of sinking X-mas trees through the ice are over. They dont last too long anyhow. It is amazing how fast Crappies and Gills will move in on artificial structure. I had great results with a product called "Reel Weeds" this winter. Sorry about the long post.-Shawn

Thanks for the report Shawn. Never too long either. Very interesting reading.
Good to have your reports in here and the other Winni update too.

What's wrong with a short reply? Good reading Shawn. Thanks, and nothing is ever too long as long as it's interesting/informative, and/or entertaining.

It was just a smart comeback for fishinmachine to keep him on his toes. Any and all responses, communication or interaction are welcome. I ended up with a healthy pile of sweet fillets. I am already thinking about the next batch. ;D

It was blue with lots of electronics on it. I think the name on the side was something like FishinMachine. There ya go Frank ;D Today would have been a nice day out there even though it was blowing a little. I guess we are going to have some company down this way tomorrow. Good luck at the golf tourney.-Shawn

Hey Shawn - Do you ever fish around Hospital Creek just south of the Champlain Bridge. I remember years ago catching monster crappies while trolling the milfoil beds outside of the Slang landing for walleyes. We never fished directly for them but always caught incidentals. I don't get down there much anymore but my folks still have a camp down there.

Yes I have fished Hospital creek area and McCuen Slang. Both places can be exceptional in the spring and have crappies in and around them pretty much all year. Were you getting whites or blacks. The blacks are running smaller right now. They got pounded this spring very hard. Lots of 2+ lb fish and a few close to 3. World class anywhere.

Honstly I don't remember but if I had to say they were blacks as I remember a darker coloring scheme to them. Who knows. Those were the days, lots of large pike, walleye, sheephead, crappie, yellow perch and the occasional eel thrown in. Never liked those things and I still don't.

Yeah the good ol days. I remember being able to go out and target Gar. What a blast that was. We used to catch lots of eels & Mudpuppies on every other trip as well. I used to be a die hard cat fisherman too. I say the good ol days. But back then the trout & salmon fishing wasnt as good either. -Shawn
