That just sucks. Pretty sleazy of the LCI, if all these people were under the same impression about payouts, they obviously did'nt make much of an attempt to make sure people were aware................

I been participating in the LCI for a lot of years and decided to voice my opinion by not entering this year. Had a couple of discussion with the LCI office and they could not change my opinion with there lack of support to my negative feelings toward several issues.

I guess that I was the only one that actually read the rules and saw that there was no record breaking fish prize this year As far as the angler of the year prize, is it possible no one weighed in a fish each day in that category? If I was a sponsor though, I would not want to sponsor them again with out the gazzette. What a rip off to the folks that did sponsor them.

I have a gazette or something from LCI in the 90s that included color sounding maps and great articles. Hard to imagine going from that to zip.

Even if they put out an online gazzette , then they could make changes as needed, and no publishing and mailing costs. They could make pages print friendly so maps and info can be printed from home.

Not to beat a dead horse but what the hell I will anyways!!! If Im not mistaken most if not all of the people at the weigh stations and what have you are volunteers and dont get paid!!!! I guess I dont get where all the money goes? To bad A lot of people really look forward to this event every year !!! I know when you get 5000 people together not everyone is going to be happy but it seems things are tilting to more negative than positive !!!Just my 2 cents!!! Sleeps

Capt. I do remember the thread pretty well !!! I guess at the time I didnt really have an opinion one way or the other!!!! But in light of things that are going on now Im leaning more towards the negative!!!! Oh by the way I think Salmonslayer has some great ideas about an online gazzette!!!! Sleeps

Im glad they didnt print the gazette. Its nothing but a waste of paper IMO. It ends up in the trash, fire or sometimes blown into the lake by accident. Some people probably line cat boxes with them so their cats can shit on them! Like really??? Are there people out there that frame them and make them like a collectors series? I bet there probably is a person out there that has 30 years worth of a framed shrine to the LCI on their wall!!! What they should have done, was have a set of rules on normal paper that they could have at registration outlets for people to take. If people didnt want to read the rules or etc.. O well!!! Their fault!!! Opinions are like assholes!! Right! I can say though.... I read the rules.... that I went out of my way to download off the internet.... and I STILL MISSED THE FACT that there was no prize for record fish. I always thought that I was an intelligent person too! Lesson learned here.... probably for a lot of folks??? including me! You should never just assume anything....

I think the biggest issue with NOT printing the gazette has to do with sponsors. Typically sponsorships are pretty well laid out from the company seeking sponsors; $X gets you this, $Y gets you everything $X does plus this......etc. etc. etc. I would imagine that advertisement of one's business in the gazette is part of the appeal to provide sponsor money to LCI.

Seems with elk publishing out of business and no info from the LCI with prize $$ going way down... Maybe the LCI is going out of business too? It seems like they don't really care how people feel and they aren't concerned they are running more of a lottery now than a derby... I would expect if this continues the LCI will drop 1000 people per year till they have under 1000 then fold..?? Seems like they are taking steps in this direction.... hmmm....
Maybe it is time for an organization that really helps the lake to step up and take over... HAT? Walleye association? I am sure a derby run byu one of these groups would not take all the money and get rich like the current folks using the lake.

To be fare the LCI is not the only one making money off the resource...FLW comes to mind. At least the LCI derby money stays local, cant say the same for FLW, and FLW gives NOTHING back to the lake.

I stopped fishing the LCI and all season derbies some years ago when they cheated my 13 year old son out of his prize money. They may have pointed the blame to person(s) at some weigh-in station(s) and gave no apololgy and thought that their excuse was good enough. Well go ahead and explain to a 13 year old boy whom fished his heart out, time after time and day after day that his entry did not count or get recorded properly... see if that little boy understands. I think not and they end up losing a fisherman and his family from participating in future derbies. Also one young boy will grow to be a man with his own family and they won't participate either.
Oh yes, that 13 year old kid is grown and still fishes his heart out. He just placed 3rd in a fishing tournament out on Lake Ontario this week and he received his check too.

I am having a hard time understanding why there is so little discussion of the LCI's conduct of this fathers day tourney and their small payout of prize money, not to mention the lack of information available to the competing anglers, and their lack of support for their sponsors. It does not make me proud to be a member of this forum.

I've looked on the LCI web site and can't find any information on the payouts. I sent them a request for the information but they haven't responded.
