Hello Capt Bill. In the very first post of "allspecies" he was 100% accurate in what he listed for payouts. And there is no longer any sort of "prize" for catching a record breaker. Other then bragging rights (and in my case, having a lure named after you!) I certainly don't mean to sound ungrateful but the awards and prizes were very disappointing when you look back at what they used to be before this year. And Fishenmachine, the way the LCI ran the awards and prizes this year was a bummer, but honestly what good will it do to complain about it. It's done and over with and nothing we say or do will change any of it. A lot of people think the LCI has become a little "shady" and I think it's really sad that is the image the LCI is portraying. The concept of the derby is awesome and I love that it brings families together and gets them outside, if they were going to cut the prizes in less then half though, they should have made it a bit more clear. They hyped up this derby claiming over $750,000 in prize money and then made it clear as mud that it was all a lottery.... That's my $.02...

Yes Sugarpie they have turned it into a lottery with a very slim chance to win.
Myself, I think if they want to have a derby that shows who the best fishermen are they should run it like a bass tournament.
Right now its nothing but a lottery. I've fished it almost every year for 20 years but me & my son spent $170 to play in it this year and thats to much. Unless things change we'll be out next year. Love to fish it with all our fishing buddies but its to expensive
Not sure why they refuse to have any discussion on this forum. Would be good for the LCI.
From what I understand there were 1000 less fishermen this year which is a big drop.
We can never understand why they have the raffles everyday at 6pm. This is when we really want to be fishing as we catch a lot of salmon from 6pm til dark. They give out mostly junk so we decided to keep fishing this year and forget about the raffles. It is fun to bullshit with everyone. Why not have the raffles in the middle of the day.
Once again my 2 cents. Don't see anyone from the LCI listening to me. I know some of the LCI board does read this forum.
Its time for the LCI folks to come up with some new ideas if they want it to continue.

sugarpie, it's simple, the more people that complain, the more people that don't enter the derby, the more the LCI will be forced to listen and make changes .Don't misunderstand my opinion on this,,,I think the fathers day derby is a great thing for the fishing community,it's the people that run it that bothers me.I think they have misrepresented themselves for years, and are now finally being found out for what they are.I think that if they had been more honest and forthcoming, a lot of this controversy could have been avoided. In my opinion, I think they dropped the ball on this one, and I think it will affect the LCI for a long time to come.

Bomber and fishinmachine, I agree with both of you. I think the LCI did shoot themselves in the foot. I was contacted again last week by WCAX as they wanted to do a follow up story on the prizes, or lack of really, the reported that called me said the LCI was not being very helpful when she asked them for information. I keep watching WCAX to see what they will air if anything... I would like to see VT fish and wildlife get involved, not to mention I'd like to find out how "legal" the actually "lottery" was considering all of the "mystery weights" were known by the LCI far before the awards night. In my opinion the "mystery weights" should have all been in some sort of sealed envelope that was certified as sealed by someone from whatever insurance company or sponsor, or whoever would have paid out the prize money and should have been opened at the awards in front of the crowd. It would have made it a LITTLE more believable that the weights were actually a MYSTERY and not all picked AFTER the derby was over. I guess now I've put in $.04!

I would like to see a not for profit organization like Food banks..etc steal some of the thunder from this derby and hold there own to run in conjunction the same weekend. I am sure the proceedes of this event would be used for benefitting people in need instead of paying salaries of the boards of directors.

Sleeps, I have NO IDEA when the weights were picked. All I know is that night, James Ehlers, had a stack of papers with random species and weight typed on them. They weren't in any sort of sealed envelope, so who knows when the weights were "drawn". He flashed each one quickly, but before he even started he said that no one had won any of the "mystery fish money"... Sounds a little "fishy" to me...

Here, is James Ehlers email as well as a email contact to wcax. I suggest everyone reading this send a email to James Ehlers at the LCI and copy wcax to it. The Lci said it is always willing to answer questions? So maybe if enough of us ask we can get some answers? It only takes a minute to voice your opinion and ask questions. Hopefully the LCI will see fit to respond. The WCAX person to contact is Scott Waterman. james@mychamplain.net Waterman@wcax.com Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.com

Maybe next year there will be a FD derby I want to enter?? I like the foodbank idea but there are probably even better "sponsors" then even foodbank not to knock foodbank either. With a 750K purse promo'd I would think the awards should be big enough to be something like a winning lottery ticket, but it should be about the fish/fishing and not some random chance with no independent audit.
I have sort of dreamed someday of enterinbg the LCI when I have a bigger boat going that isn't so weather dependent but this whole thing this year and the non-input of LCI sort of makes me sick and I have no interest in it anymore.
Is there a date for the Frostbite Tour yet?

So a total of 140,000 was paid out in cash and prizes. looks like a large sum the Cold water Bonus as well as the warm water bonus and teams paid out the most cash? Correct me if I am wrong but each of those is an additional purchase to the regular registration? Also the pay out depends on how many folks enter these extras?. So in reality the people who chose these add ons are the ones that paid out? Maybe Sugarpie can shed some light on this? I believe she got 3,000 something for getting the top Salmon. I also believe she PURCHASED an extra add on and that was around 6,000.00 and was based on a percentage of what the total take was for that add on? ??I took the 7 species from there site and added up the cash pay outs. It comes up to 46,725.00 Total Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.com Read more: cjohn2979.proboards.com/index.cgi....1#ixzz1RMekeGOf
