Frank wrote, "mikep , if you understand their business model please explain it to us.I certainly don't understand it and I'm sure there are a lot of others that don"t either, thanks, frank " Frank , in my last paragraph I said I still hope the LCI will come on this forum and explain the basic questions some of us have , and that it will make its commitment to report to one of the forum members as outlined on this thread.
In my own view , I decided not to pursue my questions with them directly beyond what I did ask, and they responded well, since I I just did not want to engage in asking them to tell me more details about their operation and objectives, when they already know the questions. I would just feel foolish.
My motivation was to get the facts for guys on this forum based on the questions asked and report it. But I realized in this process of forum discussion that it is really up to them to tell us to have any real value or the treadmill we are on would just continue. There is no issue with abuse or wrong doing, its just wanting confirmation of what they do accomplish including some quantification. Frank , you see that there is no point to me trying to explain their business model as I understand it.
They do good things for the lake indirectly in promoting issues , derbies and trying to establish funds for needy kids and all , which has potential to grow and make a difference. its like planting seeds I think, they do that but more fertilizer is needed.
Their scale of operation is much less (small in scale) than my image of it was, after operating expense and salaries and derby expense , there isn't much to work with. its apparent if they ever get into hard projects in their current form, I think they need more donations and/or grants or serious volunteers to be able to accomplish it. (note assumption they do not do hard projects, needs confirmation)
To feel right about this whole thing , on this forum , and understand them better, all that is needed is for the LCI to talk to us and clarify some of these points .

Mike---thanks for pursuing the financials---and getting answers---even though it would take an accountant to understand them---I certainly don't!!!! As for the answers to all your other questions---I think they are important enough to be answered, yet you think that it is only LCI that can come on this forum to do that---and they do not seem to be interested in doing that---if they haven't with over 10,000 hits on this thread, I do not know what it would take for them to see this is not a trivial topic. You are right that the scope of their "accomplishments" seems very small---indeed trifling small considering the amount of money that passes through their hands---and the "war chest" that they seem to have as accumulated funds. You may be content with adding "fertilizer" to these efforts----I'll just categorize the fertilizer as "bulls...", which is what it is----and I have had far enough of it. I have better things to do with my money than fund yet another lobbyist organization and I hope that others can see that this is pretty much what this organization is. Be well, Mike, you fought the good fight to get the answers you got----which only showed that the average person---even if he had the 990's right in fromt of him--COULD NOT IN A HUNDRED YEARS COMPARE ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT----that is real transparent for an organization such as LCI---and one would have to wonder why the heck they would change that horse in the middle of the stream.

Mike, Thanks for getting some of the questions answered. Don brings up a good point. why keep changing the way things are done? You would think they would also want to compare apples to apples? I am glad I do not give them 1 penny of my money. Plenty of other great groups to give money and time to. Capt. Tony www.anbradoncharters.com

Bill, I attach a financial fact sheet describing Lake Champlain International, Inc.'s financial performance in 2008. Included in the fact sheet is Lake Champlain International, Inc.'s balance sheet as of September 30, 2008 and a pie chart breakdown of 2008 revenue and expenses. The attachment also includes a list of Lake Champlain International, Inc.'s most recent accomplishments and initiatives. Many of the accomplishments and initiatives on the list are the culmination of multi-year efforts on the part of Lake Champlain International, Inc.'s staff members. Overall, you will see that it costs a lot to put on the Lake Champlain International, Inc. fundraising events. This is, however, money well spent because the events are tools for gathering scientific data about the health of Lake Champlain. The events also generate significant public interest in Lake Champlain and create an economic ripple effect throughout the Lake Champlain valley. The majority of the 2008 expenditures above and beyond the cost of operating the events went towards supporting Lake Champlain International, Inc.'s policy and issue initiatives ($64,113) and education, outreach, and youth programs ($17,221). Please understand that, other than direct grants to school fishing clubs and other donations to third party charities (e.g., the Howard Center), it is very difficult to quantify on an initiative-by-initiative basis the costs Lake Champlain International, Inc. incurred in pursuing its 2008 initiatives. Many of Lake Champlain International, Inc.'s initiatives involve building relationships within those circles that are positioned to make a positive difference for Lake Champlain and its watershed. There is no magic wand when it comes to protecting the lake. Lake Champlain's health is threatened on many fronts, and Lake Champlain International, Inc. works hard to analyze the threats and discover cost-effective ways to alleviate the threats. We are in it for the long term, and we strive to find long term solutions to many long-ignored threats. I hope the 2008 fact sheet answers at least some of your questions. If you would like a breakdown of any of the figures set forth in the 2008 financial fact sheet, please feel free to contact James Ehlers directly at James@mychamplain.net. As you know, you can track the progress of Lake Champlain International, Inc.'s initiatives on our blog (http://www.mychamplain.net/blog/), on our forum (http://www.mychamplain.net/forum/), and on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LakeChamplain?ref=ts). As you may recall, Lake Champlain International, Inc.'s latest fiscal year ends today, September 30, 2009. Our goal is to make our 2009 financial fact sheet available by the end of March 2010. If you would like a copy of it, please let James Ehlers know. Thank you again for your support of and interest in Lake Champlain International, Inc. Hi Frank The LCI lawyer sent me the information back in September and I posted it. I think its on page 20. Complete financial records.
I hope everybody takes a look. I'm still reviewing but it looks like the LCI puts a lot of the money back into the LCI and other events.
Let me know what you think.

As the LCI derby and spring grows closer by the day. The question still looms in my head as to really what goes down with the LCI? After almost a full year of questions and discusion of the topic I feel as though I don't understand how things work with the LCI any better now than I did then! Weather or not I fish the LCI is going to be a tough decision as my family has fished it for countless seasons. I am dissapointed to be in this quandry. Anyone else feel this way? ps I can't get the link to the financials to work? Never could really understand that stuff anyway. Simply answering some questions on this board would have saved a lot of hassle.
